Bio MECH

Eheim bioMECH is a combined mechanical and biological filter media. It traps coarse and fine dirt particles, and at the same time the clever pore structure ensures the colonisation of friendly cleaning bacteria. This is particularly useful if media space is restricted, or you have a heavily stocked aquarium. Suitable for use in most external canister and sump filters.
Eheim bioMECH is made from a pH neutral material, is reusable and is suitable for both freshwater and marine aquariums.

Eheim MECHpro

Eheim MECHpro pre-filtering medium is a mechanical filter media which is extremely efficient at trapping dirt particles. It is made from non-recycled plastic, which is lightweight and easy to clean. Suitable for use in most external canister and sump filters.
The spiral shape of MECHpro ensures the trapping of even small dirt particles. The surface structure also allows for the colonisation of friendly bacteria, providing a biological filtering process.
This high-quality plastic media is reusable, and allows for easy, residue free cleaning. MECHpro is ideally suited to be used in combination with Eheim SUBSTRATpro or BioMECH.

SUBSTRATpro

Eheim SUBSTRATpro is Eheim’s best biological filter media. This is a pearl shaped, highly porous filter material made from sintered glass and it has a large surface for bacteria to colonise (450 m² per litre). The pearl shape enables the water to flow through the media easier, reducing dead spots and making the media more efficient. Suitable for use in external canister, sump, Aquaball and Biopower filters.
SUBSTRATpro needs to be placed in the filter after the mechanical media and can be built up in one or more layers. SUBSTRATpro is washable and can be used several times. Suitable for both fresh and saltwater.
With the high number of filter bacteria, peak nitrite loads are more easily reduced, and the maintenance intervals of the filter material are longer.
Filter Pads

The high-quality coarse (blue) foam filter pads mechanically trap dirt particles and friendly nitrifying bacteria colonises in the pores. Can be reused many times over, replace when they lose their shape.
The fine (white) filter fleeces are made of specially structured materials that mechanically trap coarse and fine dirt particles. These should be placed last (on the top) in the media layers of your external canister filter. Can only be used once, replace each time the filter is cleaned.
Top tip:

It is advisable that you clean the filter medias in old aquarium water during maintenance. Do NOT clean the filter medias in tap water as chlorine and chloramines will remove the beneficial nitrifying bacteria that have colonised during the maturation of the aquarium.
