With its predecessor, the professionel, EHEIM started the first series of external filters with a square basic shape.
The main advantages of this include:

- Detachable hose adapter, (with integrated shut-off taps and locking clamp as complete unit).
- Individually removable filter media containers with fold-away handles for easy handling and convenient full or intermediate cleaning.
- These filters also have low energy consumption and are extremely quiet and smooth when running (comes fitted with a high-performance ceramic axle and sleeve inside the impeller).
