Description
CO₂ fertilization is an invention from nature!
All plants need carbon dioxide (CO₂) to grow and to live. They use sunlight, water, and CO₂ to create energy (in the form of sugar) and oxygen, which all animals need to breathe. This process, known as photosynthesis, is the basis of all life on Earth.
Aquarium water almost always contains too little CO₂. Even in tap water natural CO₂ is removed at the water works as a result of aeration. The undesirable algae stand next to no chance in aquaria in which aquatic plants are flourishing. Plants immediately “vacuum up” all the nutrients that promote algae growth, such as phosphates and nitrates. However, if there is a lack of CO₂, plant growth is inhibited. Excess nutrients are no longer used quickly enough, and the algae take hold.
Good planting and regular CO₂ fertilisation are therefore among the most important measures in preventing algae. As experienced aquarists know, the oxygen produced by the plants, their lush plant growth also helps the fish to thrive!
Dennerle Carbo Soda M200 CO₂ Set contains:
- 425g reusable CO₂ cylinder (compatible with widely available Soda Stream cylinders).
- Safe stand for CO₂ cylinder.
- Dynamic Valve Control (DVC) CO₂ precision pressure reducer made from milled aluminium for a constant supply of CO₂.
- Special CO₂ check valve.
- Special CO₂ hose x 2m.
- CO₂ diffuser Ultra M.
A solenoid valve not included with this set.
Tips:
- To monitor your CO₂ levels, it is best to place a Dennerle CO2 Long-Term Test Correct + pH (MC323) in your aquarium.
- Use in conjunction with a plant fertilizer such as Dennerle Plant Elixier.
- It is best to get a second cylinder to maintain consistent CO₂ supply whilst the first cylinder is away being refilled.
- Adding a solenoid valve is a good idea. It can be installed to switch the CO₂ supply off with the aquarium lighting (CO₂ is not required at night).
